Did you get some file with .lit extension while you were testing something or in some work-around?

Okay! Here is the method for opening the .lit files.

.lit file is a format from Microsoft Reader, which is Generally for an e-book reader, available for the mobile phones as well as for the desktops.

The easiest way to open .lit files is to download the Microsoft Reader and use it. But it will only work on Windows Operating Systems.

If you want .lit files to be opened on Mac or Linux, then you will need to download a small program called ConvertLit. ConvertLit converts the .lit file to the open file formats. ConvertLit is also available for the Windows Operating Systems.

If you have downloaded some E-Book which comes with .FB2 extension and wondering, what’s that! How to open that file ?

.FB2 is an abbreviation used for the FictionBook 2.0, an E-book file format which uses XML to display the file contents as done by the Mcrosoft Office Suit 2007 or greater versions like Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access and so on.

To open a FB2 file, you need special e-book viewers.

Here are some free e-book readers listed:

• Cool Reader supports FB2 file formats, and consists of features like smooth scrolling (as provided in Mozilla Firefox), text reformatting, and a fully customizable palette panel.
  
• STDU Viewer can be used to work with several file formats including the .FB2 one. It also consists of really nice GUI and standard features like searching, rotating an so on. It also supports the page extraction from PDF and the DJVU files, as images.

Both the FB2 viewers are available free but for only for the Windows Operating Systems.

These files are usually the Comic Book Record (CBR) Archives. In general, a CBR file contains compressed image files which are fetched together by using the RAR algorithm. Because CBR files are usually the .RAR files which could be extracted by using the software like 7-zip or by the WinRar.

There are 2 ways for doing it,

1. The easiest method for all is, Just Rename the file extension to .rar (after.cbr), and extract it just like a zip or rar file.
2. Now perform right click onto the CBR file, and hit on Open > Open With,
   
   Now select either the WinRar or 7-zip from the list of programs, and extract their contents.

Have you ever tried for extracting the images from any word document, either from a .docx or a .doc file?

Well, that’s very easy and here is the procedure to do that,

Extracting images from a .docx file :

The .docx format files are XML-based files and uses XML in the background to organize and store the data

The .docx file format was introduced by Microsoft with its product Office 2007. Basically this format is just like the .zip format file, and hence you can extract its contents just like a .zip file, and get the images out – from that extracted content.

In short, just rename .docx file extension to .zip after making the copy of original file. If you are not able to see the extension after that word file, then you will have to make the file extensions visible.

Then extract this zip file to a folder.

Open that folder, and you’ll see that all the images from the .docx file are placed in Word > Media folder.

Coming onto the image extraction for .doc file :

Well, there are 3 methods for extracting the images from .doc documents. All of them are quite easy, however you should use the 1st method if you have got the requirement for extracting just 1 or 2 images from that document.

But if you have multiple images to be extracted, then the 2nd and 3rd methods would be much easier.

Procedure 1 : Launch MS Word by Opening that .doc file(s). Now click onto the resize button (the resize button is placed in middle of Word Window’s top right corner), and drag and drop the image to an folder or somewhere else in the PC, to copy the image in that folder/place. Select Yes if you get some Active Dialog Desktop box(s), and the image will get saved there.

Procedure 2 : After opening the Word document, visit File > Save As, and choose HTML Document as Save As type section.

Now save that document to HTML format, if you get some warning like all the formatting will be lost and so on, ignore that & save the file as HTML.

Then go to the folder where you have saved the files as html. You will get all images which were there in that Word document.

Procedure 3 : If you have Microsoft Office 2007 or greater installed on your computer, then save the .doc as .docx and use the procedure for extracting images from .docx file as mentioned above.
